How QR Code Technology Works

QR codes (Quick Response codes) were invented in 1994 by Denso Wave in Japan. They store data in a two-dimensional pattern of black and white squares.

When your phone camera captures a QR code, it decodes the pattern and extracts the stored information — usually a URL that opens in your browser.

The restaurant industry adopted QR codes rapidly during and after the pandemic. What started as a hygiene measure has become a permanent upgrade.

Components of a QR Menu System

A QR menu system consists of three parts: the management dashboard (where you create and edit your menu), the QR codes (printed and placed on tables), and the customer-facing digital menu (what customers see on their phones).
